Bespoke Cot April 2013

We have recently completed a commission for a customer in Surrey to build a bespoke cot for their first born grandchild.

Primarily the brief was to provide a cot of individual design, because the babies gender was kept a secret untill the birth, the cot (which will become a family heirloom) had to be suitable for a boy or girl. For this reason the timber selected was American Black Walnut with its rich dark overtones which have a masculine appeal set against the blond, light grain of the Rock Maple which created a feminine touch.

The cot has to function on various levels. It has to provide storage, hence the two drawers at low level on soft close running gear. To allow for the child growing, the cot incorporates three levels of mattress height adjustment. To provide versatility the cot converts into a junior size bed with cabin sides and in teenage years it can be used as a very comfortable sofa.

We hope our latest endeavour will provide pleasure for generations to come.

Please contact Hatcher Joinery today for your customised cot or any other type of furniture.

Custom Built Double Doors May 2013

We were asked by our customer, in Woodmansterne, to manufacture, supply and install replacement hardwood doors for his conservatory. The original doors were badly swollen and rotten (they are south facing). The remit was to provide doors that are better able to with stand the variations in weather, provide better security and better draft stripping and insulation. To this end we designed and built a pair of door with a cover strip to the meeting edge, this is to prevent water ingress at this point. We also glazed the doors using our tried and tested system of dry external beading with a raised bottom bead to allow water to drain away externally and air to flow. Because the doors were hung in an existing frame we could not insert a galvanised metal water bar into the frame so we inserted a Shleagal strip into purpose made rebates in the bottom of the doors, this together with the weather boards will prevent water ingress underneath the door. We installed the latest high performance toughened double glazed units and a five lever insurance approved multi-point lock with slide bolts to the slave doors meeting edge (preventing access unless the master door is open first).

We believe our customer to be completely satisfied, this was the wording of his email received today.
